Governor Crist recently designated October 2009 as Florida Small Business Month.
In making the announcement, the governor said in a news release that he remained committed to keeping Florida as business friendly as possible. Noting that small businesses represents nearly 99.7 percent of employer firms in the U.S. and that Florida was home to 1.9 million small businesses, the governor said that Florida will continue to foster an enabling environment where small business could flourish, including streamlining government, removing red tape and eliminating onerous regulations which hamper business activity.
According to Governor Crist, “We will continue to support traditional industries like tourism and agriculture, as well as provide opportunities for newer arenas such biotechnology, green technologies and digital technology to expand.”
In announcing October as the month where small business would receive special attention, the Governor said that he hoped such a focus would make everyone aware not only of the economic opportunities small businesses provide to Florida’s workforce and the ongoing contribution being made to the Sunshine State’s marketplace, but as well, the great potential that exists for Florida’s economic future.
Small business currently account for close to 60 percent of all new jobs created in the State of Florida.
