The body of a 22-year-old Bethune-Cookman University student washed up close to the Daytona Beach Pier on Monday morning, Beach Safety Ocean Rescue officials said, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.
Students say, Damian Parks, 22, had gone swimming with some friends on Sunday off of SunSplash Park.
Parks disappeared in the surf and an intense search which lasted for several hours proved to be futile. His body washed up Monday morning around 3:00 a.m., just north of the pier, the News-Journal also reported.
University President Edison Jackson consoled grieving students on campus during a prayer vigil and memorial service Monday morning, saying “we lost a precious life.”
