Barricaded Woman, Armed with Handgun, Surrenders

A woman who barricaded and armed herself with a handgun in a home on Bob Thomas Circle in Sanford, eventually surrendered to police, early on Saturday morning.

Sanford police spent much of the night negotiating with the unnamed woman, trying to determine her mental state and attempting to convince her to come outside of the residence.

Investigators also said, the woman was seen in the home carrying a handgun, but it is not clear what led her into this position.

Officers of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team were able to secure the woman around 3:30 a.m., on Saturday morning. She was taken to a local area hospital for a medical evaluation.

Authorities said there were no injuries to the woman or any of the officers involved.

As a precaution, neighboring homes were evacuated and the surrounding area cordoned off, police said.
