Bach Festival Society of Winter Park Announces 2018-2019 Season

The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park announces its concert schedule for the 2018-2019 season, which will include 16 concert programs presented by the Society, and three additional events. Highlights include a performance of J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion (Mar 3), a performance of music from the Romantic Era and music based on The Resurrection (April 27-28, 2019), the a capella group Voctave’s orchestra debut, and the return of the popular Insights & Sounds series (Sept 20, Nov 8, Jan 24). The 84th Annual Bach Festival will run February 10 through March 3, 2019.

The following is a list of all events by series:




Choral Masterworks.  These concerts feature large-scale works showcasing the Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra. Concerts will be held at Knowles Memorial Chapel on the campus of Rollins College.

  • POWER OF ROMANTICISM AND RESURRECTION (Apr 27 & 28 – Easter weekend)
84th Annual Bach Festival. The 2019 Festival will run February 10 through March 3. Additional programs, masterclasses, and community events will be announced in January 2019:
  • SPIRITUAL SPACES: MUSICAL MEDITATIONS (Feb 10)
  • PAUL JACOBS, ORGAN (Feb 15)
  • CONCERTOS BY CANDLELIGHT: FOUR SEASONS AROUND THE WORLD (Feb 22 & 23)
  • ITAMAR ZORMAN, VIOLIN (Feb 24)
  • MOZART: GREAT MASS AND SYMPHONY NO. 40 (Mar 2)
  • J.S. BACH: ST. JOHN PASSION (Mar 3)
Insights & Sounds Series. For the second season, the Society will present an intimate music series that is part discussion, part concert. Performed by members of the Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra, each program takes a closer look at specific composers or themes, and features commentary by Dr. John Sinclair. Performances will be held on select Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. in Tiedtke Concert Hall on the campus of Rollins College. Concerts include:

  • INSIGHTS & SOUNDS: JOE AND MIKE, THE HAYDN BROTHERS (Nov 8)
  • INSIGHTS & SOUNDS: VIVALDI’S JUDITH TRIUMPHANT (Jan 24)
Visiting Artists Series. This series features renown guest artists from around the globe. (Events with an asterisk (*) occur during the 84th Annual Bach Festival)

  • OLDE FASHIONED 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION (Jul 4 at Central Park, Winter Park) Presented by The City of Winter Park
  • CARMINA BURANA WITH THE ORLANDO BALLET (Oct 12-14 at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts) Presented by The Orlando Ballet
  • CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK (Dec 6 in Central Park, Winter Park) Presented by The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art
Located in Winter Park, Florida, the Bach Festival Society is one of the longest continuously operating Bach Festivals in the country and is one of America’s great oratorio societies. The Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra bring the highest caliber of classical music to Central Florida in the  intimate settings of Tiedtke Concert Hall and Knowles Memorial Chapel on the Rollins College campus including Annual Bach Festival, Choral Masterworks, Visiting Artists, Chamber music performances, and a variety of educational and community outreach programs year round.
