‘Awake The State’ Rallies To Rage Across Florida

Thousands of Floridians are expected to participate in Awake the State rallies all across the state on January 10, fighting back against Gov. Rick Scott and his extreme allies’ assault on the middle class, public schools, health care, voting rights, civil rights and more.

With a single message in mind, “Floridians need more, demand more and we’re watching your every move!” at least 20 rallies will be held statewide, from Miami in the south, to Pensacola in the north west, on the first day of the legislative session. Rallies will be held in Sarasota, Tallahassee, Pinellas, Tampa and Brevard, among other cities and counties.

In Orlando, The Awake The State rally will be held at the Progressive Center, 134 East Colonial Drive, beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Rally will open with a short speaking forum, followed by sign waving at the intersection of Orange Avenue and Colonial Drive.

  1. The original version of this story yesterday included this important piece that seems to have been removed:

According to new reports, protesters in the Orlando rally plan on calling out Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, who they say has been allied too closely with the Chamber of Commerce and because he has backed House Speaker Dean Cannon. Mike Cantone, a candidate in the race for Orlando Mayor calls Dyer a “Chambercrat.”

“It’s time to acknowledge the emperor has no clothes – it is clear he is a Chambercrat: loyal to the devastating agenda of the Chamber of Commerce,” said Cantone in a statement. “His endorsement of Cannon was his first big tell, but Dyer literally bought the Chamber endorsement by giving them $63,000 of our tax dollars for nothing and then winning their ‘unprecedented’ endorsement less than two weeks later. The voters are not stupid, they are Awake.”

“Rick Scott, Dean Cannon and Mayor Dyer have all hurt the people of Orlando by following marching orders from the Chamber of Commerce. It’s time for the people to come first again,” he added.
