Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody presented a Back the Blue Award to De Luna Coffee International, a locally-owned coffee producer in Pensacola. The award recognizes the company’s efforts to support the Escambia County Sheriff Foundation. The foundation works to build positive relationships between law enforcement and local communities.
“Law enforcement officers work grueling schedules to keep us safe,” Attorney General Ashley Moody said. “While we are sleeping, officers are patrolling the streets, monitoring traffic, and keeping watch over our communities. During these long nights and early mornings, coffee can be crucial—and I think it’s fitting that a local coffee company stepped up to help law enforcement and support the mission of the Escambia County Sheriff Foundation.”
De Luna recently launched a new product and promised to donate some of the proceeds to the ECSF. The primary goal of the foundation is to strengthen the bond between the sheriff’s office and the community that it serves.
The ECSF is responsible for community engagement efforts like the award-winning Sheriff’s Blazer Academy. The Sheriff’s Blazer Academy immerses young men and women in an environment that will provide mentoring and instruction on many topics such as courtesy, responsibility, empowerment and respect. The ECSF also hosts unique events for residents of the Escambia County area and the men and women of the sheriff’s office to come together and build positive relationships. Some of these events include:
- Cops, Cars and Crawfish where members of the community were invited to a local racetrack for a car show, crawfish boil and to enjoy a movie on the big screen.
- Sheriff’s Movie Night which features family-friendly films displayed on a large 17×10’ screen for all to enjoy.
- Dining For Deputies where a local restaurant hosts residents and ECSO members to dine together, and a portion of the proceeds go to support the foundation.
Attorney General Moody launched the statewide Back the Blue campaign soon after taking office in 2019. The campaign highlights law enforcement officers, citizens and organizations taking extraordinary steps to forge positive relationships between law enforcement and local communities. Since its inception, Attorney General Moody has issued more than 50 Back the Blue Awards.
Supporting law enforcement is a top priority for Attorney General Moody and the mission of Back the Blue is to commend Florida’s brave law enforcement officers and Floridians who back them.
