Attempted Bank Robber has Change of Heart, Flees

A man armed with a gun, attempted to rob a bank today, January 28th, but apparently had a changed of heart and fled, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies responded to an attempted armed robbery at the Banco Popular, 2300 West Oak Ridge Road, at approximately 3:00 pm.

The suspect, a black male, wearing a blue jacket with a Magic logo, and a gray baseball cap, handed a teller a note implying he had a gun and demanding cash. For unknown reasons the suspect had a change of heart and fled the bank westbound on Oak Ridge Road.  The suspect is believed to be in 30’s and about 5’ 8”, 140 lbs., thin build and short black hair.

Detectives searched for the suspect with support from the agency’s helicopter and K-9.   The suspect remains at large.
