Ashton Begins Defense of Son in DUI Trial

Jeff Ashton

Jeff Ashton, former Casey Anthony prosecutor, began defending his son, Alexander, on DUI charges, Thursday.

Alexander, 21, was found to have a blood-alcohol content of 0.174, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08, when he was pulled over for speeding last October, Seminole County deputies say.

Ashton told the court that, “The evidence will show in this case that the defendant had the ability to do everything that a driver needs to drive a car, everything. And you are going to see him do it on that videotape,” cfnews13.com reports.

The surveillance video taken the night Alexander was pulled over is expected to loom large in the case. Although voluntary, Alexander attempted to perform roadside sobriety exercises, when asked to do so by deputies.

The breathalyzer test that was conducted will not be used at trial, given its unreliability as Ashton has successfully argued, cfnews13.com reports.

Ashton is running for the position of State Attorney of Orange/Osceola County, hoping to replace his former boss, Lawson Lamar who has held the position since 1989.
