Arrest Made in Central Florida Fatal Hit-and-Run

An arrest was made this month in a Central Florida fatal hit-and-run that killed a victim in their wheelchair.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the suspect connected to a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on East 124th Avenue near Tampa.

On October 12th at 7:35 p.m., 62-year-old Dr. Gwyn Norman Crump, Jr. struck the victim in their wheelchair and failed to stop. There were several witnesses to the hit-and-run who gave a description of the vehicle.

The victim, 53-year-old Richard Taylor, was transported to AdventHealth Fletcher, where he died from his injuries.

Using HCSO’s Real Time Crime Center cameras, detectives were able to identify the suspect’s vehicle and tag. They went to Crump’s address, where he admitted to driving the vehicle the night of the crash.

Crump was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash With Death.

“I want to offer my deepest condolences to the family of the victim during this incredibly difficult time,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “While nothing can undo this heartbreaking loss, we hope that this arrest brings some measure of closure to their loved ones.”

This is an active and ongoing investigation, according to local law enforcement.
