A man was arrested in connection with eight stolen dump trucks worth approximately $1.2 million.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office detectives were investigating a stolen dump truck from Duval County went to a business on the 4700 block of Hubert Avenue in Tampa. They discovered 40-year-old Olansy Marrero altering the dump truck’s VINs.
Detectives secured the property and obtained search warrants for that property and two conjoining properties related to the same business. They found seven more dump trucks stolen between 2023 and 2025.
In Florida, the dump trucks were stolen from Hillsborough County, Duval County, Collier County, Lee County, and Palm Beach County. Law enforcement also recovered stolen dump trucks from Georgia and South Carolina. All of the dump trucks were rebranded with the company’s logos.
“These thefts didn’t just hurt business owners from across Florida and the Southeast, but they impacted families, employees, and construction projects,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We’re committed to those who help build up our community and will come after anyone who tries to tear it down through theft and illegal operations.”
Marrero was arrested and charged with:
- Grand Theft $100,000 or More (x3)
- Criminal Mischief $1,000 or More
- Possession of VIN Plate
- Possession of Motor Vehicle With VIN Plate
- Sell or Possess Vehicle With Altered Numbers
- Tampering With Physical Evidence
- Operating a Chop Shop
- Introduction of Contraband Into a Detention Facility
This remains an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
