Bankfinal

A masked gunman, armed with a handgun, who robbed a Regions Bank on Wednesday, was quickly apprehended, after he crashed the vehicle he was driving into a fence, Orange County deputies said.

27-year-old Dewarren A. Lewis entered the Regions Bank at 8061 Via Dellagio Way, just after 11:00 a.m., and demanded money from a teller, investigators said.

Lewis, who fled the bank in a vehicle, made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Investigators later spotted the vehicle Lewis was driving at the Amara At Metrowest Apartments in the area of 6168 Raleigh Street.   The suspect crashed into a fence inside the apartment complex and bailed from the vehicle, deputies said.  A short foot pursuit followed and Lewis was apprehended.

Deputies recovered the cash and the firearm used in the bank robbery.  No one was hurt during the armed robbery or the foot pursuit.

Lewis faces several charges including, armed robbery with a firearm and mask, grand theft, resisting without violence and aggravated assault with a firearm, among others.
