A masked gunman, armed with a handgun, who robbed a Regions Bank on Wednesday, was quickly apprehended, after he crashed the vehicle he was driving into a fence, Orange County deputies said.
27-year-old Dewarren A. Lewis entered the Regions Bank at 8061 Via Dellagio Way, just after 11:00 a.m., and demanded money from a teller, investigators said.
Lewis, who fled the bank in a vehicle, made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Investigators later spotted the vehicle Lewis was driving at the Amara At Metrowest Apartments in the area of 6168 Raleigh Street. Â The suspect crashed into a fence inside the apartment complex and bailed from the vehicle, deputies said. Â A short foot pursuit followed and Lewis was apprehended.
Deputies recovered the cash and the firearm used in the bank robbery. Â No one was hurt during the armed robbery or the foot pursuit.
Lewis faces several charges including, armed robbery with a firearm and mask, grand theft, resisting without violence and aggravated assault with a firearm, among others.
