Orlando police are searching for a man armed with a handgun who robbed a Dollar Tree store on Monday night.
The man, believed to be black and dressed in all dark clothing, walked into the Dollar Tree at 5760 N. Orange Blossom Trail, just before 9:30 p.m., pointing a gun.
The suspect, who directed his gun at one of the employees, asked for the manager and when she appeared demanded money from the cash register.
The manager, fearful, told the suspect that there was no money in the register, but in a safe in the office. With the gun pointed toward her, the manager was directed to unlock the office door and then the safe, according to the Incident Report. The woman was directed to put only bills in a bag the gunman carried.
Neither of the two employees was hurt nor a customer who was in the Dollar Store at the time of the armed robbery.
The suspect left the store in an unknown direction, with an undisclosed amount of cash, but it is believed he was spotted running by Hungry Howies several doors down. Three persons who had pulled up to pick up takeout food told police they saw a black man, wearing sunglasses and a bandana run by and appeared to drop something and pick it up. It is believed that man dropped the handgun he was carrying and scrambled to retrieve it.
The suspect is described as “fairly short” about 5′ 2″ to 5′ 3″, the employees told investigators, but could be taller. He could weigh about 170 pounds one person told detectives.
Anyone who recognizes this video still of the suspect is urged to call Crimeline at # 1-800-423-TIPS.
