A 19-year-old driver who fled the scene of a crash, after hitting a teenager attempting to cross the road on a bicycle on Monday night, has been arrested.
Kristy Nandoo, 19, of Apopka was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash on State Road 436 near Thompson Road in Orange County.
Troopers say, Nandoo was heading northbound on State Road 436 around 8:20 p.m., when she hit Edward Fernandez, 16, who was attempting to cross the highway, but not in a crosswalk or at an intersection. He was later pronounced dead at Florida Hospital in Apopka.
Meanwhile, Nandoo fled the scene of the crash northbound.
Witnesses called 911 and provided a description of the 2000 Ford Mustang Nandoo was driving.
Police caught up with the Mustang at Christiana and Mason Street in Apopka, but Nandoo’s boyfriend, a 17-year-old male was driving the vehicle.
Troopers say, Nandoo and the teen had switched vehicles. When stopped she was driving her boyfriend’s 2008 pickup truck.
Nandoo was arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal crash. She was booked into the Orange County Jail around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The crash remains under investigation.
