Apopka Pharmacist Arrested for Illegally Trafficking in Pain Medication

A pharmacist in Apopka was arrested on Tuesday, after agents of the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation (MBI) said, he is suspected of illegally trafficking and distributing pain medication.

Satish Balddevbhai Patel, who is the pharmacist at Apopka Discount Drugs, 63 West Main Street in Apopka, was arrested on 50 counts of trafficking in Oxycodone and 50 counts of conspiracy to traffic in the drug.

Agents have been investigating Patel and Apopka Discount Drugs since August 2011, after he was suspected of illegally distributing powerful pain medication such as Oxycodone and Percocet to local drug trafficking organizations.

In addition to the arrest of Patel, Health Department inspectors conducted an inspection to determine if an emergency suspension order should be issued on the Apopka Discount Drugs Pharmacy.
