Apopka High Reaches Out to Demolished Alabama School

Apopka High School Beta Club members today began collecting donations to be delivered to students and staff of Plainview High School in Rainsville, Alabama, severely damaged during the deadly tornadoes that crossed the south last month.

According to news reports, the school’s estimated loss is between $10 to $15 million. It’s main building, gymnasium, and cafeteria have catastrophic damage and the school has been deemed unsafe for students and staff.

Beta Club members are asking for monetary donations, all kinds of school supplies, hygiene items, canned foods, and camping gear such as coolers, tents, lanterns, sleeping bags, bug spray, and lawn chairs.

Apopka High School has a semi-truck parked near the Science building where donations can be dropped off between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. through Friday, May 13, 2011. The school hopes to have the items delivered over the weekend for the students and staff at Plainview High to receive first thing Monday morning, May 16, 2011.
