A massive sinkhole opened up in the backyard of a family in the Jonesville area, west of Gainesville, causing a couple to flee the home, The Gainesville Sun reported.
This is the second major sinkhole that has opened up in over a one week period in Florida.
The sinkhole in Jonesville, about 80-foot-long and 40-foot-wide, began opening on Friday and crept toward the home of Robin and Rhonda Matheney, who built their home 37 years ago.
A geologist who inspected the sinkhole told the couple that it would likely move closer to the house, The Gainville Sun Reported.
On May 3, a sinkhole opened up in a residential area in Windermere near Orlando, forcing two families to evacuate their homes. Located in the Summerport subdivision, this sinkhole was reported to be about 100 feet wide and 50 feet deep and within 3 feet of the homes.
