Anna Marie Likos named new Director of Disease Control Division

 

Anna Marie Likos, MD, MPH has been named as the new Director for the Division of Disease Control and Health Protection., the Florida Department of Disease Control and Health Protection said Monday. Dr. Likos will provide oversight for the Bureaus of Communicable Diseases, Environmental Health, and Epidemiology.

“We welcome Dr. Likos to the Florida Department of Health,” said Dr. John Armstrong, State Surgeon General and Secretary of Health. “She brings unique experience and a global background in public health to serve the people of Florida in this leadership role. I also want to express appreciation to Dr. Pat Ryder for serving as Interim Division Director.”

Dr. Likos has worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) since 2003 when she became an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer (EIS) with the Poxvirus Program.

Dr. Likos received her medical degree from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and her Master of Public Health (International Health) from Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine-Primary Care at Yale New Haven Hospital as well as a residency in Preventive Medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.
