I was on campus as B-CU’s hoops teams were loading the buses to head to North Carolina. I remember giving B-CU senior, Paul Scotland a pound and telling him “Beware of that hostile environment.” I also thought about that thrashing B-CU put on the Aggies in Daytona Beach. Whew!
I don’t know if he really heard me or simply didn’t take heed, but it was highlighted as North Carolina A&T beat B-CU 65-55 in Greensboro.
One thing about playing in the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) is, revenge on home court is a bitch! I simply couldn’t exchange a softer word folks, indulge me.
Dukes held down, ineffective
B-CU’s Kevin Dukes went into the game with a reputation for scorching A&T. He had a combined 18 3-pointers in his three previous contests against the Aggies.
On Saturday, Dukes finished with just nine points on piss-poor, 3-for-9 shooting from the field, and hit only 2 of 7 from beyond the three-point.
As a team B-CU, went 3-for-18 from 3-point range. I must say, that is a bloody far cry from the dozen they launched in the earlier contest at home in the Richard V. Moore gymnasium.
Nope! Welcome to the raunchy and loud Ellis F. Corbett Center where the entire Wildcats supporting cast succumbed to the chants of “Aggie Pride!”
A&T’s Lamont Middleton led all scorers with 17 points, while Adrian Powell finished with 13. Austin Witter, the reigning MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, swatted five shots and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
For B-CU, Adrien Coleman and Javoris Bryant paced the Cats with 12 apiece in the losing effort while Alex Smith and Brandon Stewart each dropped eight. Your boy Ricky Johnson, (the FAMU game-saver) was scoreless.
I can only shake my head at this one folks. To make matters worse, B-CU next travels to Durham, N.C., in the middle of Tar-heel country to face the Rams of North Carolina Central University. You’ll recall how this team came to Daytona Beach and ripped the Cats a new Bloody Butt hole…right? I’m saying, they beat the Cats convincingly too. I continue shaking my head at that one and move it right along.
Here is a little bonus for my football folks; Bethune-Cookman University inked 23 young men to National Letters of Intent to play football for the Wildcats in 2013 on National Signing, in the Larry R. Handfield Athletic Training Center. I’ll take a few sentences to give a shout out to Shelton Willis, who signed on as a QB…I saw this guy grow up folks. It’ll be a pleasure to see him tear up the field at B-CU.
Speaking of getting torn up, looking forward to the season opener on September 1st against Tennessee State University in the John Merritt Classic in Nashville, TN. Ummm… you’ll recall how TSU came to Daytona Beach and BASHED the Cats last season…right?
The first home game is Sept 7th when the Virginia Union Trojans come to town for the first time. That’ll surely be different. I just thought I’d throw that gridiron information in there for you and prove I can cover two sports at the same damn time! Whether it’s on the football field dodging tackles or on the court in the middle of the timeout huddle, I Got Next!
