African American Chamber, White House Convene Urban Entrepreneurship Forum

The African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida will host a White House Urban Entrepreneurship Forum on Wednesday, August 3, at the National Entrepreneurship Center in Orlando.

The Urban Entrepreneur Roundtable: Urban entrepreneurs will discuss barriers and challenges that they face in business.  Various government agencies will have representatives who will discuss public-private partnerships that have been designed to empower minority-owned businesses including startups and high-growth enterprises.

The Urban Entrepreneur Roundtable is one of several events hosted by the African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida to celebrate National Black Business Month which is held during the month of August.

Who:

The African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida, in partnership with the White House Office of Public Engagement, City of Orlando, Florida Hospital, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts host the Urban Entrepreneur Roundtable.

Panelists include Ron Busby – President, United States Black Chamber, Errick Young – Manager, Business Development Orange County, Thomas Chatmon Jr. – Executive Director, Orlando Downtown Development Board and Ken Hamilton – Asst. District Director, Small Business Administration.

Why:

As unemployment continues to challenge the economy, communities must rely on small business to put people back to work.  Various sources state that unemployment within the African American community hovers above 16%, more than twice the national average.  Urban small businesses will be an essential part of a successful job recovery among African Americans.   The panel discussions will identify challenges that confront urban entrepreneurs, as well as identify solutions to common problems that urban entrepreneurs face.
