Acceleration Academy to Open Westside Campus

Acceleration Academy will expand from Orange County’s eastside to include a westside campus in January 2012, a statement from the Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) said.

Established in February 2009, the Academy currently serves 400 students, concentrating on those who are off track from their high school graduation cohort group, with indicators of being behind in credits or over age due to retention. The purpose of the Academy’s program is to increase the district high school graduation rate and reduce the district dropout rate.

According to the School’s website, Acceleration Academy is a place where students can, “Dream, Believe and Achieve.” The Academy’s vision is to create “a community of lifelong learners and help each child reach his or her highest potential through collaboration and collegiality.”

The proposed location for Acceleration Academy West is the Evans 9th grade campus, pending zoning approval.

A temporary alternative location has been identified on the Wes Orange High School campus, OCPS said.
