Absentee Ballots On the Way

Absentee ballots for the state’s Republican presidential primary, scheduled to be held Jan. 31, began heading out to voters this week.

Ballots will continue to be sent out until close to the day of the election, and voters can request a ballot until the Wednesday before the vote if they want to vote through the mail.

In-person absentee ballots can be taken up through the day of the election. But an absentee ballot could also bring a deluge of mail from candidates, who have the right to request information about those who have asked to vote absentee, said Leon County Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho, who said the candidate mailers often bring complaints.

“They get those numbers within 12 hours,” Sancho said of the candidates. “They get those names, for that matter.”
