More Floridians will likely travel 50 miles or more from home during the year-end holidays, compared to last year, AAA predicted Friday.
According to the Auto Club Group, 4.8 million Floridians will undertake year-end holiday travel, a 1.3 percent increase over last year. The majority, 4.3 million will travel by automobile, up 1 % from the previous year. The remainder – 267,514 will travel by air, an increase of 4.2% and 194,356 will travel by bus or train, up 4%.
Nationwide, AAA projects 93.3 million Americans will travel from their homes, an increase of 1.6 percent from the 91.8 million people who traveled last year. The year-end holiday travel period is defined as Saturday, Dec. 22, to Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013.
“The year-end holiday season remains the least volatile of all travel holidays as Americans will not let economic conditions or high gas prices dictate if they go home for the holidays or kick off the New Year with a vacation,” said Brent Hubele, vice president, AAA Travel, The Auto Club Group. “Travel this year will end on a strong note and the advanced travel bookings for 2013 are far outpacing those from this time last year.”
