This week I have been busy taking care of out-of-town guests, so I’ve collected some information about upcoming cultural events around Orlando. Hopefully we can all check some of these out!
- “Elegant Enigmas”: The Orlando Museum of Art features works from eccentric writer and illustrator Edward Gorey from August 13 to October 31. All of my brooding high school friends and I loved Gorey, so naturally I’m excited about this. (http://www.omart.org/exhibitions/elegant-enigmas-art-edward)
- “Robert Motherwell and Jasper Johns: Poetic Works as Metaphor”: The Rollins College Cornell Fine Arts Museum is hosting an event surrounding this exhibit that includes poet Billy Collins. I will definitely have further details about this by next week.
- We still have 3 more chances this summer to visit the Orlando Science Center’s “Skywatch.” Each Saturday evening until August 21 the Crosby Observatory opens its doors and telescopes to visitors. Doors close at 10 pm, but visitors can stick around until 10:30 pm. This has my “Great Date Idea” alarm ringing. http://www.osc.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=207:skywatch&catid=16:events&Itemid=139
- Macbeth runs at August 6-29 at Orlando’s Mad Cow Theater. The cursed “Scottish Play” is an extraordinarily twisted tale and my favorite of Shakespeare’s. http://www.madcowtheatre.com/Production.aspx?GRPID=16
