Lydia Gardner, long-time Orange County Clerk died on Wednesday night, according to news reports.  She was 65.

Orange County Clerk Lydia Gardner is reported to be extremely ill and has been hospitalized. Gardner is a multiple cancer survivor and has always made a comeback in the past, however details of her current condition are not confirmed.

Gardner has been in the Clerk’s office since 2000 when she moved over from 12 years serving on the School Board. Gardner serves on a number of boards, including those advocating for the mentally ill and domestic violence victims. Previously she was a teacher, a member and chairman of the School Board of Orange County, a real estate broker, and an executive with a Fortune 100 telecommunications company.
