Senior quarterback Hannah Schaible threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth as Flag Football defeated visiting Oak Ridge, 26-0, to capture their fourth consecutive District Championship and eighth in the last ten years. Schaible connected with Rachel Lopez and Malia Harrison and a pair of extra points passes to Jshyra Reed and Jade Cheek for a 14-0 lead at the half. In the second half, Reed hauled in a five-yard touchdown reception and Schaible closed out the game with a four-yard scamper to send the Panthers (12-2) into the Regional Tournament. Schaible and Reed registered interceptions while I’munique Green tallied a season-high 13 flag pulls. Harrison led the way offensively with eight receptions while Cheek hauled in seven. DP has now recorded three consecutive shutouts and a school-record nine for the season. They’ll head up to Apopka Friday night at 6:00 pm as their road to the State Tournament continues.
Men’s Volleyball made quick work of host Boone with a 25-21, 27-25, 25-20 victory to improve to 13-8 on the year. Kevin Rocklein led the way with 11 kills and five digs while sensational matches were turned in defensively by Vin Duarte and Chris Violetta with an amazing hit on the final game.
Both DP Track and Field teams will head to Flagler Palm Coast this morning for the Regional Championship at noon while Water Polo teams head south to Miami for the State Tournament beginning tomorrow morning. Softball hosts Olympia tonight in the Regional Quarterfinal at 7:00 pm and Baseball will battle host Boone for the District Championship tomorrow at 4:00 pm. Women’s Lacrosse will open up their Regional Tournament slate at home vs. Timber Creek tomorrow night at 7:00.
DP has been well-represented on this season’s All-Metro West teams. Women’s Tennis State Champion Alizee Michaud and State Doubles Semifinalist Sarah Baron were clear choices while second team honors were bestowed upon Men’s Tennis seniors Cooper Vissers and Ajay Govindaraj and freshman Nicholas San Pedro. Women’s Lacrosse saw three earn first team honors: sophomore Cymber Larkin, senior Elizabeth Hales and junior Daniela Davila while senior Asahi Hirano earned second team honors.
