Former Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Democratic Governor nominee Alex Sink has endorsed Alan Clendenin for Chairman of the Florida Democratic Party.

“Alan is a fearless advocate for Democrats and I have seen firsthand over the years how he has worked tirelessly to represent Democrats, serving as a State and National Committeeman, organizing to deliver votes to many successfully elected Democrats in Florida, and recruiting candidates to run for office,” Sink said. “Alan has put forth a plan and vision which will lead our Party forward and help us continue to win elections at all levels.”

The hotly contested race between Clendenin and Allison Tant has seen many major endorsements as the election nears. Alex Sink joins a growing list of key Democratic caucuses supporting Mr. Clendenin including the Democratic Black Caucus of Florida, the Democratic Hispanic Caucus of Florida, the Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida, the Democratic Veterans Caucus of Florida, and the Democratic Business Caucus of Florida.

“The leadership of Alex Sink has brought quality representation for democrats, positively affecting all 67 Florida counties,” said Clendenin. “I am honored and proud to have the support of CFO Sink, a dynamic democratic woman leader. To all Florida democrats, I stood with you yesterday, I stand with you today and I will still be standing with you tomorrow. Together we will move our party forward.”

Clendenin will face off against Tant, the establishment candidate, for FDP Chairman on January 26th. According to news reports, Tant was also a lobbyist for a firm that purged African-American voters from the Florida voter rolls, before, during and after the 2000 recount.

  1. A lot of these Caucuses are tiny, but they make up a bunch of the key constituencies Democrats need to be consulting and getting a lot more active. As in this case, that comes with the capacity to listen to them when they speak as the Party, in the past, has considered them mere window dressing. SILENCE from the so-called “progressive” caucus is amazing.
