The Caribbean region wrapped up the 2008 Olympics Games with a huge medal haul that also included re-writing the Games` history books.
In total, the Caribbean won a whopping 41 medals, nine of which were gold. It was a performance unparalleled by the region in the Games.
Cuba led the way for the region, finishing with 24 medals – two gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze.
But it was the Jamaicans who stole the spotlight, snatching six gold medals and smashing three world records and one Olympic record.
Three of those gold medals belonged to the World`s fastest man, Usain Bolt.
Jamaica`s haul also included three silver and two bronze medals.
The Dominican Republic, The Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago finished with two medals apiece. The DR`s total included one gold and one silver while T&T picked up two silver medals.
The Bahamas ended with one silver and one bronze, each. No other Caribbean country managed to snag a medal.
The 2008 Olympic Games concluded in Bejing Sunday amidst another spectacular show of heavenly drums, silver bell dancers, light wheels and flying men. A pyrotechnic display of numbers for the countdown from 29 — to indicate the 29th Olympiad also ushered in the Closing Ceremony at 8:00 p.m. (UTC/GMT) in front of an audience of more than 90,000.
