Casey Anthony Just Won’t Go Away, Civil Trial Delayed

Casey Anthony

Central Florida just can’t say goodbye to Casey Anthony. Attorneys for Zenaida Gonzalez, the woman suing Casey Anthony for defamation, were successful in their attempt to delay the civil trial. Gonzalez’s accusations stem from the fact that Casey Anthony used that name to describe a babysitter in her claims to police when her 2-year old daughter Caylee went missing. Authorities later found that no such person existed and that the entire tale was a lie. Now Gonzalez says her reputation suffered because of the use of that name.

Anthony’s whereabouts remain unknown and she has used her Fifth Amendment right to refuse to answer most of the questions in the civil trial. Anthony is currently appealing her criminal convictions, where she was found guilty of lying to law enforcement during the investigation.

Gonzalez’s lawyers want to delay the trial long enough to get her to answer their questions. Anthony’s lawyers opposed the delay and said Anthony wants this case resolved as soon as possible.

Orange County Circuit Court Judge Lisa Munyon ruled that a pretrial conference will be held in the Spring for the civil suit.
