A Lake Wales woman has been arrested, accused of repeatedly stabbing her 7-year-old son while he slept, after chaining his hands.
Police arrested 42-year-old Maisa Alvarez at her home in Lake Wales, Polk County after she confessed to stabbing her son several times with a kitchen steak knife in his chest.
Alvarez told investigators she woke up in the night, went to her son’s bedroom and bound his hands with a chain, then began stabbing him in the chest, according to news reports.
Investigators found defense wounds on child’s hands, as he tried to ward off the attack by his mom. Alvarez told detectives that’s when she realized what was happening.
The boy was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital where he is recovering from non-life threatening injuries.
It’s not clear what led Alvarez to attack her son.
Alvarez, who has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated child abuse, was booked into the Polk County Jail.
