Faulty Box Fan Sparks House Fire that Killed 3-Year-Old

Fire marshals believe a fault box fan sparked the Lakeland house fire on Wednesday morning which claimed the life of a 3-year-old boy and has left his father in critical condition.

Landon Myers, 3, was found deceased inside the home located at 3418 Sheretz Road in Lakeland when the fire was extinguished. The child suffered thermal burns over 90 percent of his body, investigators said.

32-year-old Brian Myers, the boy’s father, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and he remains in critical condition.

According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire appears to have resulted from a faulty box fan which was located in a hallway near Landon’s bedroom.

Authorities say, a total of seven family members were inside the home – two adults and five children – when the fire broke out around 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
