Head-on Collision Kills Unbelted Female Passenger

A head-on collision Friday evening on Overstreet Road near Tettenhall Lane resulted in the death of a female passenger.

Troopers said, Cody Robinson-Banks, 17, was driving a 2005 Toyota van westbound on Overstreet Road and Mark Matheson, 57, was driving a 2000 Honda eastbound. Robinson-Banks crossed the center line into the eastbound lane where the vehicles crashed head-on at approximately 6:40 p.m.

Carla Matheson, 56, of Winderemere, a passenger in the Honda, died at the scene of the crash. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, troopers said.

Troopers are not sure yet what caused Robinson-Banks to cross the center line, but toxicology results are being awaited to determine whether or not alcohol played a role.

Robinson-Banks along with a passenger, Nicolas Quintero, 17, both of Winter Garden, were not injured. Both teens were wearing seatbelts.

Mark Matheson, the driver of the Honda, sustained serious injuries.  He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said, the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
