Fourth of July Celebration at Lake Eola Park

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer invites residents and visitors of Orlando to attend the 35th annual Fireworks at the Fountain on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Lake Eola Park in Downtown Orlando. The event will feature live entertainment on two stages, a play area with bounce houses and face painting for kids, the Orlando Magic interactive RV with video games and festive Fourth of July cuisine available for purchase.

Festivities begin at 4 p.m. and spectators are encouraged to arrive early for a great viewing spot.

Just before the firework show kicks off, there will be a special patriotic Lake Eola Fountain water, light and sound show for attendees.

The highlight of this event is a spectacular 15-minute fireworks display that begins immediately following the fountain display.

FOURTH OF JULY SAFETY REMINDER:
Mayor Dyer and the Orlando Fire Department want to ensure residents and visitors have a safe Fourth of July holiday weekend. According to National Fire Protection (NFPA) research, there are more U.S. fires reported on a typical Independence Day than on any other day, and fireworks account for more than half of those fires. In 2009, fireworks caused an estimated 18,000 reported fires. These fires resulted in an estimated $38 million in direct property damage.

Here are some safety tips from the Orlando Fire Department for the Fourth of July weekend:

  • The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public display conducted by trained professionals.
  • Residents and visitors are encouraged to leave the fireworks to the professionals. Do not use consumer fireworks.
  • After a fireworks display, never let children pick up left over fireworks. They may still be active.
