State Rep. Geraldine F. Thompson (D-Orlando) has been selected as a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention which will be held in North Carolina during the week of September 3.
Thompson, who was selected during the Democratic State Convention last week-end in Tampa, will join other delegates in Charlotte to nominate President Barack Obama for a second term to the presidency.
In 2008, Thompson was a Delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention held in Denver, Colorado. She was also one of Florida’s members of the Electoral College.
“I was honored to be part of history in 2008 when Democrats nominated the Country’s first African American President,” said Thompson. “After President Obama won the popular vote in Florida, I was overjoyed and very excited to cast my electoral ballot for him. I am honored again to be selected to participate in his nomination for a second term.”
Thompson said Mr. Obama had made a lot of progress and deserves an opportunity to finish many of the initiatives he embarked upon.
Other Delegates from Orlando to the Democratic National Convention include LaVon Bracy, Kat Gordon, Reginald McGill and David Rucker.
