One day after declaring that a motion would be filed for a second bond hearing, George Zimmerman’s defense team announced Tuesday, it would be delayed.
Without any explanation, Zimmerman’s legal team stated on the website, gzlegalcase.com, that the “legal team has decided to delay filing a motion for bond.” The team added that a hearing will not take place for a couple of weeks and a motion will be filed well ahead of the hearing.
Zimmerman returned to jail on Sunday, after Judge Kenneth Lester revoked his bond last Friday. Judge Lester had determined that Zimmerman and his wife, Shellie Zimmerman had not told the truth about their financial situation at a bond hearing in April. While the court was led to believe that the couple had little financial means, in fact, a website established by Zimmerman had in fact raised over $200,000.
On their website, the defense team acknowledged Zimmerman had misstated his financial situation, but that he had been “forthright and cooperative in all other regards.”
Zimmerman, 28, is charged with second degree murder in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin, 17, at a gated community in Sanford, in late February.
Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty and said, he shot the teen in self defense.
