Several DP Athletes receive Post-Season Honors

Junior quarterback Hannah Schaible and sophomore wide receiver Jade Cheek from the state Runner-Up Flag Football team earned first team All-State honors by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association. Sophomore center Malia Harrison and senior linebacker Shya Garrett were named second team All-State while senior wide receiver Ashley Diedrich earned Honorable Mention All-State.

Metro West Conference and District Champion Women’s Water Polo was led by senior goaltender Mary Campbell, who earned first team All-Central Florida, courtesy of the Orlando Sentinel. Second team All-Central Florida honors were garnered by senior Rachel Dytrych while the All-Central Florida third team included senior Shannon MacNeil and junior Meredith Canty. Sophomore Allie Magrino was named to the All-Orange County team.

Metro West Conference and District Champion Men’s Water Polo saw seniors Jack Orchard and Ryan Staton named first team All-Central Florida by the Orlando Sentinel for the second consecutive year. Senior goaltender Collin Brandt and senior Bruno Ferreira were named to the All-Central Florida second team once again and junior Reed Davis earned third team All-Central Florida honors. Freshman Evan Staton was named to the All-Orange County team.

Men’s Volleyball seniors Andrew Johnson and Logan Maladecki were invited to participate in the annual Orange County Senior All-Star Game at Winter Park High School on Tuesday, May 15th, at 7:30 pm.

Men’s Weightlifting senior Brad Bindas earned second team All-Central Florida by the Orlando Sentinel. Also Daija Phillips (Flag Football) and Ryan Larson (Baseball) were each named Brighthouse Sports Network’s Player of the Week in their respective sport.

This year’s Dr. Phillips High School Hall of Fame and Athletic Awards ceremony will feaure the induction of 2005 graduate Blair Bodenmiller. Bodenmiller, who was a four-year letterman in Softball and also lettered in Cross Country, was one of Central Florida’s top players all four years of high school and went on to an astounding career at Floridas Atlantic. An All-State player. Bodenmiller was also DP’s 2005 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, set numerous school records and continued her academic and athletic excellence all the way to law school at Florida State. At FAU Bodenmiller was a four year team captain, a two-time FAU Female Student-Athlete of the year. She attended FAU on scholarship and started evey game she played, and graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 average.
