Residents in the Tampa area could be missing mail after a United States Postal Service (USPS) mail truck was robbed at gun point on Wednesday.
Investigators said, a 48-year-old postal worker was parked sorting through mail in the 1000 block of River cove Street when he felt a gun to his side.
The first suspect told the driver of the mail truck “Don’t move” and the gun to his head and he was told “Don’t look.” The suspect then ordered the driver to turn on the truck and drive.
The postal worker drove the mail truck to the area of Kodiak Springs and 19th Street, as the suspect rode on the outside foot ledge of the truck.
Police said, the suspect then asked the driver, “Where are the checks?”
The driver was ordered to the back of the mail truck and that’s when the suspect grabbed the mail tray, dumped the mail in his black backpack and fled the scene.
A second suspect was waiting for the first and they both fled west on Bird Street.
Suspect # 1 is described as a black male, about 17-27 years, 6’1″ tall and about 190 pounds. He was wearing a white tank top or T-shirt, jeans, a dark baseball cap worn backwards, black backpack and armed with a black revolver.
Suspect # 2 is described as a black male, 5’10” tall, 230 pounds and was wearing a white T-shirt, jeans, with low cut hair.
Tampa Police and the Postal Inspector are investigating and working active leads.
