Troopers are asking for the public’s help in identifying a vehicle and driver who struck a dying motorcyclist in the road way, and fled the scene of a crash.

Florida Highway Patrol said, the unidentified motorcyclist was traveling north on Tomoka Farms Road near Country Circle Drive in Volusia County, when he lost control and crashed.

The motorcyclist was thrown from his 2007 Harley Davidson and ended up in the southbound lanes of Tomoka Farms Road. That’s when an unknown vehicle traveling south hit the motorcyclist as he lay in the road.

Troopers said, based on evidence at the scene, it is believed that the unknown driver of the vehicle was aware that something in the road was struck, but fled anyway.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead on the scene. Troopers are still working to positively identify the deceased, given that the motorcyclist’s body was so badly mangled.

The crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Troopers said, the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Anyone with information is urged to contact, Florida Highway Patrol at: 407-737-2213
