Ocoee police are searching for a suspect who may hate banks or ATMs, maybe both.
A white male was caught on video surveillance wielding a sledge hammer to the drive-up ATM at the SunTrust Bank, 10331 west Colonial Drive in Ocoee on Monday night.
Investigators say, the white male suspect exited his vehicle, walked up to the drive-up ATM and hit the screen repeatedly with a sledge hammer before returning to his vehicle.
The damage to the ATM is estimated at $20,000.
Investigators also say, in the overnight hours of February 16, the same SunTrust bank’s ATM was also damaged and video footage shows the same suspect in both SunTrust incidents.
Also, on February 16, a Bank of America ATM at 10201 west Colonial Drive in Ocoee, was also attacked. Police believe that the three incidents might be related.
Police think the purpose of the sledge hammer beatings of the ATMs was vandalism, rather than an attempt to steal money.
The suspect is described as a white male with a slim build in his 20 to 30s. He was wearing a black leather jacket, sunglasses, dark colored pants and could be driving a gold or silver Sedan or Toyota Camry or Accord.
Anyone with information on these incidents is urged to contact the Ocoee Police Department at 407-905-3160 or call Crimeline at # 1-800-423-TIPS.
