Two Killed in Deadly Crash in Port Orange

Two people were killed and another is in critical condition in a single vehicle crash early on Tuesday morning, Port Orange police said.

25-year-old Eric M. DeLeon of Orlando and 26-year-old George A. Kavaliauskas, of Lake Mary, were pronounced dead at the scene, after the 2012 Kia in which they were traveling on Ridgewood Avenue, crashed into a guardrail.

Police said, DeLeon, the driver of the car, was heading southbound on Ridgewood Avenue, at a high rate of speed, between 3:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., when the crash occurred.

After DeLeon struck the guardrail on the west side of the road near the Triangle motel, he lost control of the Kia which traveled across southbound lanes, struck a concrete median and crossed both northbound lanes of U.S. 1. The car came to rest at 5111 Ridgewood Avenue, but not before crashing head on into a palm tree, police said.

DeLeon and Kavaliauskas died on the spot.

A third occupant in the Kia, 29-year-old Nestro E. Romero, of Lake Mary, was transported to Halifax Hospital in critical condition.

Assistant Chief Wayne Miller said, no other vehicles were involved in the crash, which remains under investigation.
