Car Trapped Under Semi, Driver Suffers Serious Injures

A Titusville man is in serious condition after his car got pinned under a semi truck on State Road Road 50 on Orange County’s east side.

The crash occurred just before 7:00 a.m. on Monday.

Florida Highway Patrol said, a semi truck was heading eastbound on State Road 50 from Hancock Lone Palm Road, attemping to travel westbound on State Road 50.   Witnesses told troopers the semi was blocking all eastbound lanes with the flatbed trailer portion of the truck.

A 2012 Hyundai driven by Steven Daft, 57, of Titusville, heading eastbound on State Road, did not see the flatbed trailer portion of the truck and traveled completely under that part of the semi.

Orange County Fire rescue worked for several hours to free Daft who was trapped in the car. He ws taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver of the semi truck, Daniel Castro, 35, of Orlando, sustained no injuries as a result of the crash.

Troopers cited Castro for violation of the right of way and for failing to have reflective tape on the side of the trailer.

Traffic was diverted in the area for several hours.

The investigation into this crash continues.
