Poll: Bush Shadow Stalks Bad Economy say Americans

Republicans should begin to worry!

A Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday finds that Americans by a large margin, blame former President George W. Bush for the poor state of the national economy. Fifty-four percent say that Bush is responsible for mushrooming the federal deficit and growing the ranks of the unemployed, while 27 percent blame President Barack Obama.

Voters also said they would largely blame Republicans, and not Obama, if there is no deal on raising the debt ceiling.  A whopping 67 percent also said that any debt deal must include tax increases for the wealthiest Americans.

While there is growing dissatisfaction with Obama on his handling of the economy, the poll found that voters trust him more than congressional Republicans. Forty-five percent also said they trust the president to help the U.S. economy, versus 38 percent who believe Republicans could do a better job.
