Gov. Rick Scott held a ceremonial bill signing ceremony at a charter school in Ocoee, near Orlando, Monday morning.
Four of the five bills had already been signed by the governor on June 6.
One bill (SB 1546) was signed for the first time. That bill expands a charter school’s ability to add grades and increase enrollment. It is designed to reward charter schools that are defined as “high performing” by giving them more autonomy than other charter schools.
The other bills Scott ceremonially signed on Monday expanded virtual schools and voucher programs.
“Children should not be locked into going to a failing school just because of where they live, and families should have the right to choose an education best suited to their children,” Scott said in a prepared statement.
