Casey’s Lawyers Throw Everything Up Against the Wall

Casey Anthony was back in the Orange County court for a second day on Thursday, as her defense team work to keep key statements she made to her family, out of trial.

Jose Baez, bumbling before Judge Belvin Perry suggested, George and Lee Anthony, as they attempted to get information from Casey on her daughter’s whereabouts, were working as agents of the state and not with her defense team.  As such, Baez would like these conversations Casey made to family members thrown out.

But, George Anthony appeared to contradict Baez’s theory and in emotional testimony, admitted his focus was on finding his granddaughter, Caylee.

Baez also tried to prove that Lee was in regular contact with law enforcement officials shortly after Casey’s arrest, getting him to admit  the several letters, text messages and notes he kept during jail house visits with his sister, were never intended to be kept private, but rather to assist the state’s investigation.

Lee conceded he never intended to keep the notes private, even though he did tell Casey he would do so.

Judge Perry has not said when he would rule on these motions. Casey is expected back in court on Friday, as pre-trial motions continue.

Casey Anthony is charged with first degree murder in the death of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee.  She has maintained her innocence and has said that her daughter was kidnapped by a baby sitter. The child’s remains were found in a wooded area near the Anthony family home, in December 2008.

Anthony is in the Orange County Jail awaiting trial which is expected to commence on May 9, 2011.
