Amtrack Train Slams into Car on Tracks in Osceola

A Kissimmee woman, who stopped her car on railroad tracks in Osceola County on Saturday, probably saved her own life when she exited the vehicle before an Amtrack Train slammed into it.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said, 47-year-old Arleen Valentine, heading southbound on Poinciana Boulevard, around 6:52 p.m. on Saturday, stopped her 2004 Lincoln for traffic on the railroad tracks.

Valentine who observed an oncoming Amtrack Train, heading eastbound, was able to exit her car before it slammed into the front of her Lincoln.

Troopers say, the 49-year-old Russell Griffin, the driver of the Amtrack Train, was unable to stop before crashing into Valentine’s vehicle.

After the impact, Valentine’s vehicle faced southwest in the median of Poinciana Boulevard, FHP said.

Of the 156 passengers onboard the Amtrack Train, two were treated for minor injuries.

Valentine has been charged with violation of a right-of-way.
