Two male drivers were killed in a fiery crash when a gasoline tanker and a pick up burst into flames on the Beachline in Brevard County on Friday.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said, a gasoline tanker pulling a trailer was heading westbound on SR 528 when a pick-up truck, for unknown reasons, slammed into the right side of the tanker.
The crash caused the pick-up to burst into flames and roll over several times, before it flipped over the overpass, landing on North Courtenay Parkway or SR 3.
The tanker continued westbound, troopers said, going through the barrier wall, into the eastbound lanes of SR 528, before exploding in flames.
FHP said, the trailer separated from the tanker and landed next to the pick-up.
The drivers of the tanker and pick-up died in the inferno. Troopers said that their identities will have to await confirmation through dental records.
Traffic was backed up for miles in Brevard County and motorists were diverted from the Merritt Island overpass, which sustained significant damage resulting from the flames.
Officials estimate that it will take at least one month to repair the overpass.
