Wrong Way Driver Kills Woman in Brevard County

A 25-year-old woman died on January 1st, the victim of another driver who was heading in the wrong direction on North Courtney Parkway in Brevard County, troopers said.

FHP said that for an unknown reason, a 2007 Toyota SUV, driven by Michael A. Sanchez, 47, of Oviedo was heading southbound in the north lanes of North Courtney Parkway.  Christina Potts, 25 years, of Mims, Florida was traveling northbound in a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser, was in the inside northbound lane of SR-3 or North Courtney Parkway.  The front of Sanchez’s vehicle struck Potts’ vehicle and overturned into the center median.

Potts was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center in critical condition.  She died of her injuries on January 1st 2011.

Sanchez was taken to Cape Canaveral Hospital, with minor injuries.

The crash occurred on December 30th, 2010, around 9:25 pm on SR-3 North of Tel-4 Road.  It is not clear yet whether alcohol played a role in the carsh.

Troopers said that the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
