Orange County Commissioner Linda Stewart (District 4) will join the Environmental Protection Department to cut the ribbon leading into the new 3,000 acre ecological corridor in the Southeastern portion of Orange County. Over 7,000 acres of environmentally sensitive land have been preserved since her election in 2002.
The Isle of Pine Preserve was acquired through the Green PLACE Program in 2007. Their mission is to preserve and manage environmentally sensitive lands, and to protect water resource lands to provide quality passive recreational experience for future generations.” Citizens and visitors will be able to enjoy hiking, horseback riding, and viewing wildlife, catching glimpses of white tailed deer, turkeys, sand hill cranes, bobwhite quail and gopher tortoises in their native habitat.
Commissioner Stewart, known as the “GREEN COMMISSIONER”, has been an advocate for wildlife corridors and environmental protection throughout her eight years in Orange County, making the effort to keep our lakes clean and pristine. Last year she fought to prevent skimming water from the lakes in the Moss Park area.
