Reckless Lakeland Cop Id’ed

The off-duty Lakeland police officer, who left two young boys and his firearm in his vehicle, which led to an accidental shooting of a 10-year-old boy in the hand, has been identified.  He is Officer Rawn Haynes.

Officer Rawn Haynes of the Lakeland Police Department, who is also a football coach, left Chauncey Cleckley and his younger brother briefly in his vehicle on September 16, around 5:00 pm, as he went into his parent’s home on 1009 west Kaley Street Orlando.

While Officer Haynes was inside the home, Chauncey’s younger brother, 7 years, gained access to the officer’s firearm and accidentally shot his brother in the hand.

Randolph Haynes, father of Officer Rwan Haynes told police that he was standing on the porch at his home, when he heard a gunshot come from his son’s vehicle.  He said he opened the door of the car and both children came out with one holding his bleeding hand, with the other child saying he was sorry.

Chauncey was transported to the Arnold Palmer Hospital and was treated with a non-life threatening wound.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office had declined to identify the Lakeland police officer at the time of the accidental shooting of the 10-year-old boy, saying that Rawn Haynes was an undercover agent.  It has since been clarified that while Officer Haynes had engaged in some undercover activities, most of his assignment have not been so.

The incident is still being investigated.
