A Central Florida inmate’s death is under investigation.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation after an inmate passed away at the hospital.
67-year-old George Leavens, while incarcerated at the Falkenburg Road Jail for Burglary and Grand Theft charges, had to be hospitalized multiple times for symptoms related to a serious medical condition.
His most recent hospitalization began on January 5, 2025, when he was transported to Tampa General Hospital.
On January 10th, Leavens passed away.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine his cause of death. Mr. Leavens’ next of kin was notified.
This is an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
