Husband Indicted on Murder Charge for Wife’s Killing in Central Florida

A husband was recently indicted on a murder charge for his wife’s killing in Central Florida.

An Osceola County grand jury formally indicted 49-year-old Jose Otero-Fontanez for First Degree Murder with a Firearm and two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer after fatally shooting his wife in their Osceola County home and firing shots in the ensuing standoff.

On Aug. 24, the St. Cloud Police Department responded to the couple’s home for a reported shooting. When the first two officers arrived on the scene, the defendant fired at them, causing them to retreat.

After a brief standoff, negotiators convinced the defendant to surrender and took him into custody.

Inside the home, officers located the body of the defendant’s wife, Lizvette Figueroa-Guzman, deceased with multiple gunshot wounds.

This month, State Attorney Andrew Bain’s office presented sufficient evidence to a grand jury to secure an indictment against Otero-Fontanez for First Degree Murder with a Firearm.
